            The Fatherly Love of God

by Patsy Gaffney, Music Director

Married in month of roses June,
Life will be one long honeymoon.

I was about 15 years old the first time I played the piano at
a wedding. It was for my best friend's sister. And through the
years of playing for weddings, I can tell you that some things
never change! There's always a whirl of excitement bustling
around the bride --- the ring, the dress, the veil, the hair, the
shoes, the flowers, the
groom!
I don't remember where my friend's wedding took place,
who was there or what I wore. In fact, looking back I don't
remember many other details about it at all. Except one. My
friend's Dad was the music director at our church where I was
the pianist. He sat down at the piano with me one evening
and discussed in detail every piece I should play. He brought
the music to each song and I played each one for him while
he decided which ones would be chosen. Was this process
due to the fact that he was a virtuoso; distinguished in the art
of music? Partly. But mostly it was because of his fatherly love
for his daughter. I saw in this act of involvement in her life a
demonstration of his love for her just like our Heavenly Father
loves us.

"My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue;
but in deed and in truth." 1 John 3:18

"So fathers, be good to your daughters. Daughters will love
like you do."
Lyrics from "Daughters" by John Mayer

“O Sing unto the Lord a new song:
sing unto the Lord, all the earth.”
Psalm 96
A Father's Prayer

O teach me God and Father
In everything I do
To let Your grace and wisdom
Come shining through
I want to be the father
That You want me to be
To love my child with
Gratitude and deep humility

O help me God and Father
To show the path of life
Please give me Your own wisdom
And fatherly advice
O may my child see Jesus
In everything I do
Let the love and peace of Christ
Teach her to love You too

Our God is calling fathers
To be just like Him
To show what His love and mercy
Brings changes from within
It's only when we follow
And know the Father's heart
That we can show our children
What God is all about
